LITTLE-known tales from Malvern's past will be revealed in a ghost walk around the town next weekend.

Historian Cora Weaver and the Malvern Civic Society have organised two walks, on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4.

Friday's walk will be led by Dudley Brook, while Cora will lead on Saturday.

She said that all the stories on the one-and-a-quarter-hour walks are rooted in fact and she has trawled through past papers, like the Malvern Advertiser of more than 100 years ago, to find details.

"They are things that have happened in Malvern's past where people have died in tragic circumstances and one or two where famous people came and their soul lingers on," she said.

One Victorian example is a woman who worked at a water cure establishment whose gentleman friend promised to marry her but kept putting it off. He even borrowed money to buy a wedding licence, which never materialised, and when she became pregnant she drowned herself in Swan Pool in Priory Park.

Walks start at 7.30pm by the Elgar statue on Belle Vue Terrace. Tickets are £2 in advance from Malvern Tourist Information Centre or on the night.
