UPTON LADIES 4, MWHC 3

THIS was a well matched game on Upton's grass pitch but Upton couldn't help wondering if the result would have been different if played on Astro Turf.

Upton struggled a bit in midfield but Vanessa Dawe managed to receive a great ball from Laura Smith and fight her way through Malvern's defence to put Upton in the lead, but it wasn't long before Malvern retaliated to make the score even. Half way through the game Charlotte Underwood arrived giving Upton a full squad, filling the gap in midfield and scoring a superbly well-timed strike on goal.

Again Malvern equalised and it was very obvious that Malvern train well together as their one twos were paying off every time, they had a great defence system and some very fit and talented forwards.

Upton's third goal came from Paula Sayers who continued to battle through Malvern's defence to calmly place the ball past Malvern's keeper, putting Upton in the lead, but not for long as some swift passing from Malvern put them in a scoring position and brought the score level again. The last goal for Upton came from Tanya Phillips. Player of the match went to Charlotte Underwood. Thanks to Jo Rayer for umpiring.

Upton are away to Colwall in a friendly at the John Masefield School, Ledbury. All those wanting lifts should meet at Upton Sports Ground at 1pm.
