A PASSENGER watchdog is calling for Malvern Wells railway station - closed since the notorious Dr Beeching cuts of the 1960s - to be re-opened as part of a public transport renaissance.
The Rail Passengers Committee (RPC), which has published a 20-year proposed action plan, claims both Worcestershire and Herefordshire deserve new track, fresh rolling stock and additional stations.
The RPC wants the line improved between Hereford and Oxford, services through Worcester doubled and Malvern Wells station brought back into use.
The station was shut down because it was not deemed viable.
"There is probably a case for exploring the idea of re-opening Malvern Wells station," said Worcestershire county councillor Tom Wells, who is the authority's "cabinet" member for environmental matters.
"However, the problem we have is that rail travel is dominated by large businesses whose main concern is profit for shareholders."
