HALLOW WMC 1, MALVERN RANGERS 2

RANGERS progressed into the next round of the Baylis Cup with a relatively comfortable victory.

Manager Roger Kitchener was left with only 12 players, including himself, and was forced to give Sean Lynch his first start for over 12 months, which left 16 year old Luke Dunn as the only substitute.

Rangers deservedly took the lead after 23 minutes. Mark White, playing in an unaccustomed midfield role, took on the Hallow defence and from a tight angle his low right footed shot inside the near post gave Gary Watkins little chance.

Hallow were a lot more competitive during the second half but Rangers gave themselves a two goal cushion after 20 minutes.

Mark White was again involved, playing the ball into the path of Simon Rea who ran on and scored inside the far post with a well taken right foot shot.

Hallow scored a consolation goal on 43 minutes when, from a corner, Tim Goodwin headed home.

The Players' choice for man of the match was Sean Lynch.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Rangers, sponsored by the Three Horseshoes, entertain Midland Combination Division Two side Droitwich Spa (last season's Droitwich St Peters), in the second round of the WFA Junior Cup, kick off 2pm, extra time and penalties if required. Players to meet at Victoria Playing Fields 1.15pm.
