Pershore Manor 4, West Malvern 4 (after extra time, West Malvern won 4-2 on penalties)
AN heroic performance by Steve Newman gave West Malvern victory in the Phipps Cup.
He made two saves in the penalty shoot after a hard fought 4-4 draw.
West went down early to a well taken goal and battled hard to keep it at one. Then Will Hardy scored a magnificent brace of goals, rewarding the defence's efforts.
Manager Terry Cole's fearsome half time team talk paid off for West Malvern as Dougie Hawes robbed the defence and beat the home keeper to make it 3-1.
Rig Charley and Lewis Wary went close before West conceded again. An own goal swung the balance back to the West.
However, two goals from corners in the last 15 minutes forced extra time.
An eventful period ended with penalties. All West players were successful with Paul Parry scoring the crucial fourth.
Next Saturday is another Cup match at home.
