NEWS that Malvern have been drawn away to Handsworth has prompted talk in the club house bar of a good run in the NPI Cup.

With memories of Twickenham 1994 still fresh, many of the old heads are speculating on the strength of the current team and the possibilities of a second visit to HQ.

But director of rugby, David Robins, is more sanguine.

"Our number one priority is, and remains, promotion to Midlands Division One, which we see as the ultimate goal for Malvern RFC.

"However, there is no reason why we shouldn't have an extended cup run. Handsworth are two leagues below, and even if we get a draw against teams from Midlands or North One sides, they hold no fear for us. The team has started to click, our squad rotation system is working well and the players need little or no incentive to keep winning. The team is definitely up for a good cup run, but the league still remains our prime objective," he said.
