A FORMER bingo hall owner from Worcester is hoping a home-produced video about swans will prove just the number for a county rescue centre.

Kay Bamford-Burnell has filmed and edited the video herself and will donate all the money to Swan Rescue at Wychbold.

The 64-year-old, of Zermatt Close, Northwick Park, used to run the Majestic Bingo Hall at Warndon but has now turned her attentions to helping swans.

She was moved by their plight during a visit to the centre, run by Jan Harrigan.

"I went round to have a look at the centre and was shocked to see the massive injuries these swans suffered from flying into power cables, eating lead, being tangled up in fishing lines and kids shooting or throwing stones at them," she said.

"What I saw disgusted me. The sight of those poor swans and the state they arrive in just broke my heart and I thought I had to do something about it.

"Finances are always tight so I thought I'd make a film to raise money.

"I have about 10 hours of footage which will be cut down to 40 minutes.

"I've edited and produced it myself and designed the cover and I'm just putting a voice-over to it."

Mrs Bamford-Burnell first went to Swan Rescue 17 months ago and now helps out as a volunteer, driving Mrs Harrigan to talks and taking swans to vets.

The footage includes swans in their natural habitat on Worcester's river and also at Slimbridge Wildfowl Park and Swan Rescue.

Also included is a swan whose wing is removed in an operation but which recovers to raise signets.
