LORRIES transporting materials to a Worcester building site are causing chaos for people living nearby, a city councillor has claim-ed.

Bryant Homes is constructing a new 99-house complex at the former Carmichael Fire Engine works, at the end of Gregory Mill Street.

But neighbours claim noise from lorries pulling up on the site early in the morning, coupled with mud all over the road, is making their lives unbearable.

Councillor Rod Staines visited the area after complaints from tenants living in Addison Road, near one of the site entrances.

"There was mud all over Addison Road, right down Blanquettes Avenue. It was a terrible mess," said Mr Staines.

"One of the lorries had parked at 7.15am and the site does not open until 8am. They were just parked there with their engines running.

"They're supposed to have wheel washing equipment on the site, but it doesn't look like it from the state of the area."

Mr Staines said he approached one of the lorry drivers to complain about the state of the area.

"I asked him how would like this going on where he lives and he said he wouldn't like it," said Mr Staines.

A resident of Addison Road, who did not wish to be named, said everyone in the area was angry.

"It's a disgrace around here," he said. "People are bringing mud into their homes because the lorries are so dirty."

Stephanie Gadd, a spokeswoman for Bryant Homes, said the company was aware of the problem, which was due to a specific contractor who had been spoken to about the situation.

"They are aware that they should not deliver before 8am," she said.

"We have wheel washing facilities for both accesses."

She said that following the complaints a road brush had also been put on the site.
