Evesham III 0

Solihull Blossomfield III 4

IN their third match of the DTZ West Midlands Premier Hockey League, Evesham entertained an experienced Blossomfield side.

Evesham were hoping to turn around their disappointing start to the league season and once again found themselves lacking the all-round quality required to compete at this level.

Although 1-0 down at half time, Evesham found themselves starting stronger than in previous weeks, managing to maintain their overall shape and movement, with Cole being a welcome addition to the midfield.

The best spell of the first half came in the last ten minutes when Blossomfield failed to enter the home side's half, and only a brilliant display by their goalkeeper stopped Evesham from scoring.

The game re-started evenly, with both sides creating good attacking opportunities. However, some slack marking from the Evesham midfield left the back line over stretched and the visitors increased their lead to 2-0.

Desperate to stay in the game, Evesham started to throw everything into the offence and were soon rewarded with a penalty stroke.

Mark Sadler stepped up confidently, sent the keeper the wrong way, and despairingly saw his shot ricochet off the upright.

Evesham took a back seat and a superb flowing movement saw the deficit grow to three, and soon after a fourth and final goal was slotted home after sloppy defending.

Evesham continued to battle on but could not regain the spark shown in the first half.

Looking to gain their first points of the season Evesham travel to Khalsa in Warwick on Saturday.
