Bretforton Ladies 4

Banbury Ladies 2

In this friendly fixture, Bretforton opened the match with some fine and supportive play from the whole team.

In the first half Bretforton opened the scoring from a short corner with Sophie Corbett stopping the ball dead, enabling Debbie Slatter to strike the ball home.

The home side kept the pressure on the Banbury defence and were soon awarded a short corner which Corbett striked only to be deflected off a Banbury player, but Bret's Julie Stowe quickly picked it up and pushed the ball in at an acute angle.

Bretforton began to sit back and ultimately gave the visitors two gift opportunities to break through and score, which they did to bring the scores level.

In the second half Bretforton dominated the game and looked more determined as they kept possession, with the defence of Jane Wheeler, Sue Palmer and Lesley Harrison distributing the ball well around the pitch.

A Bretforton penalty flick was awarded, but unfortunately not scored by Corbett.

Bretforton's third goal came from a short corner which was stopped by Bobbie Handley who saw Corbett free to strike the ball home, her one and only goal of the match.

Corbett was involved in Bret's fourth goal - building up from midfield she found Slatter to fire the goal in. Bret's goalie, Fiona Jordan, was confident in goal and made some fine saves. Player of the match was Debbie Slatter.

This week Bretforton's league match is against Cheltenham 2nd's at Cheltenham at 12pm.
