6 IN a previous letter to You Say, I forecast that Foregate Street would be gridlocked by the recent changes in road layout which were presumably designed, and produced, in accordance with Labour's "strategic thinking" in traffic management.

I have to admit I was wrong in saying Foregate Street would become gridlocked.

I did not consider Worcester motorists' in-built ability to treat our council's traffic management schemes with routine contempt.

Cars park, as I had predicted, to ferry guests to and from the hotel and railway station.

Instead of traffic behind waiting for those motorists to drive off, car after car veers illegally on to the newly-built bit of bus route, and drive past the cars stopped on the bus lane.

This new road layout is a disaster.

It is a complete waste of public money, which I estimate at around £50,000. It beggars belief that our local authority should have produced and passed such an appalling piece of planning.

I label this new road layout as design by dogma. Its outrageous stupidity should now be apparent to all.

This bit of "design by dogma" has one purpose - it is to make the use of a car more and more difficult, in order to herd people on to public transport.
