THE largest DIY store in the West Midlands has opened its doors in Kidderminster and brought 150 new jobs with it.

And the Homebase Megastore on the Crossley Retail Park is also only the second of its kind in the country.

Thirty workers have carried their jobs over from the now-closed Homebase store in Park Lane, and 150 new full and part-time jobs have been created.

Manager Paul Shaw welcomed the new jobs and said the DIY store and garden centre, spanning 130,000sq ft, had been extremely popular with customers since opening on Friday.

He said: "We literally do have everything you could wish for in terms of houses and gardens under one roof.

"It is a fantastic place which will attract customers from much further than the Wyre Forest area."

He added: "With customers coming from far afield this is also great news for the rest of Crossley Park and Kidderminster's economy as a whole."

The multi-million pound 15-acre estate, which is expected to create 400 jobs by the time every business has opened, is based on the former Coloroll site at Carpet Trades Way.
