THE wait is finally over for hundreds of youngsters now the much-awaited indoor skateboarding and BMX centre in Kidderminster has opened.

The £300,000 Roll 'n' Ride SK8 Park opened last Thursday and is already proving popular among its visitors.

More than 500 skateboarders have already been along and the 9,000 sq ft building in Stadium Close was packed to the rafters on its opening night.

Owners Jane and Guiseppe Belmonte said as well as Wyre Forest, the centre had attracted people from Manchester, Birmingham, Worcester and Droitwich.

Mrs Belmonte said: "It was great we were ready to open just prior to this week's half-term as it gave a lot of the youngsters an immediate chance to come along and see for themselves what the park is all about.

"A professional skateboard team came from Birmingham to give us some support on our opening night and some people have come along every day so far."

She added: "The next things in the pipeline for the park are a junior area and a spectator's gallery with a split level floor and we hope to have some positive developments soon."

The centre also includes a practice area, bike repair and gear shop and a refreshment zone.
