URGENT attention is being demanded to ease the road-crossing plight of Stourport pensioners in semi-sheltered homes near Vale Road.

They have repeatedly asked for a pedestrian crossing on the three-carriageway road over the last 12 months and have run out of patience.

After chairing a public meeting on the issue Wyre Forest district councillor Irene Dolan is demanding answers from the Highways Partnership, the body that brings together district and county council responsibilities for highways.

"We want an explanation on why a 300-name petition organised a year ago has been ignored and why they say it is not viable to slow down traffic on the road," she said.

The public meeting at St Wulstan's Commun-ity Centre earlier this month was attended by most of the elderly residents from Mitton Close and Mitton Walk.

Mrs Dolan said suggestions they should use crossings at the bottom of Vale Road and at the Gilgal were out of order. They were "totally unsuitable" for people with infirmities.

Mrs Dolan said her message to the forum was "this problem is not going to go away".
