A LONG-standing "eyesore" has been transformed into a source of pride for community volunteers.

Now organisers of a body promoting leisure facilities for children hope play leaders and other groups will flock to use the new-look children's centre in Radford Avenue, Kidderminster.

Prompted by concern reported in the Shuttle/Times & News about litter problems in town, Greenhill community leader Dennis Chance helped turn the spotlight on some good news.

As secretary of Wyre Forest Children's Play and Leisure Association, Mr Chance set to work with his broom and spruced up the outside of the child centre in Radford Avenue, Kidderminster.

Mr Chance praised the results of a Worcestershire County Council £6,000 project to refurbish the Radford Avenue Children's Centre.

"This place has been an eyesore for many years and it's good to see it looking nice again with all the windows in place and with new paint. It's a brilliant job."

As secretary and trustee on the management committee, he had also helped with clearing overgrown areas around the building "to give the groups that use it a more optimistic feeling about the future."

Mr Chance said: "You talk about making a clean-sweep of untidy areas of Kidderminster and this is certainly what has happened here. The building is well used by the Gingerbread playgroup and a toddlers group but now we have a nice looking building we want more users to help pay to keep it going."

If any groups would like to inquire about booking, they should ring Mr Chance on 01562 69847.
