STOURPORT Swifts secured a place in the FA Vase second round after bouncing back from two cup defeats with victory at Oldbury United.

The Swifts came out on top against their Midland Alliance rivals with goals from Lee Booth and Lea Shaw despite falling behind to a first-half strike.

In recent weeks, they had been knocked out of the FA Cup after beating weekend opponents Oldbury in an earlier round -- and the Rameses Invitation Cup.

But the weekend's fine victory partly made up for that in a performance inspired by the introduction of substitute Matt Southwick.

They lost Simon Marsh through injury after only 11 minutes but good play between Adrian Cooper and Gary Hackett soon engineered a chance for Lee Booth but he shot straight at keeper Johnson.

Against the run of play, Oldbury took the lead after 23 minutes when a hopeful foray into the penalty area by Kevin Banner was misjudged by Rob Clarke in the Swifts goal, giving John Nightingale an easy chance to convert.

The game changed after half-time with Southwick's work alongside Booth causing many problems and they nearly drew level within seven minutes.

An attempted clearance by Davies struck his own player and the ball ran to Booth who shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

But Swifts levelled the score on 55 minutes, following a jinking run by Paul Moore and his cross was stabbed home from close range by Booth.

In the 62nd minute, Booth's cross flat-footed the Oldbury defence only for Swifts' Cooper and Lee Shaw to leave it for each other with no-one to beat from three yards out.

Swifts continued the pressure with both Cooper and Southwick going close, but it was the 72nd minute before Southwick crossed to Shaw and he hammered the ball into the roof of the net for the winner.

Fixtures, Saturday: Stourport v Stafford Town (Midland Alliance, 3pm). Tuesday: Bromsgrove Rovers v Stourport (Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup final second leg, 7.45pm Swifts lead 3-2 from the first leg).
