Long Compton 3, Quinton 3

QUINTON notched up their first points of the season after a draw with their close neighbours Long Compton.

Despite several goalscoring opportunities being created by the home side in the opening exchanges, it was Quinton who took the lead in the 12th minute.

A perfectly flighted ball behind the Compton defence left two defenders and the keeper stranded, allowing Sean Winchester to slot the ball into an empty net.

Compton then began to take the game to Quinton, continually creating openings and on 20 minutes, following a foul on Phil Smith in the area, Chris Juhlin drove home the resulting penalty to level the scores.

The game then opened up and chances were created by both teams. It was Quinton who took advantage and by half time they had opened up a two goal lead thanks to goals by Sean McKendry and John Devine.

In the second half, Compton began to push forward with more conviction, creating goalscoring opportunities, all of which were wasted.

With 15 minutes remaining three substitutions gave the edge to Compton's game and following a deep right wing cross into a crowded goalmouth, a Quinton defender glanced the ball into his own net to set up a tense final ten minutes.

Compton continually searched for the equaliser, but were thwarted time after time by a confident Quinton defence and with 90 minutes gone it seemed the visitors would secure all three points.

However, in the third minute of added time, the ball found Chris Juhlin inside the box who drove the ball low and hard into the corner of the net. Despite the linesman's flag for an alleged offside, the goal stood for the points to be shared.
