A BIKER who defied a five-year driving ban to lead police on a high-speed chase has been sent by Kidderminster magistrates for sentence by a crown court judge.

Neil Soley, 35, of The Foxholes, Kidderminster, admitted dangerous driving, being on the road while banned and without insurance and illegal possession of heroin.

Police had chased him on the Stourport road at 85mph, said prosecutor Alex Warren.

He went to the wrong side of the central reservation, forcing oncoming traffic to take evasive action, turned into Walter Nash Road and went through the Birchen Coppice estate without slowing down.

He rode up Sutton Park Road at 75mph, then turned back towards the town and was pursued along Bewdley Road and the Ringway to the Horsefair, said Mr Warren.

There he hit a car and jumped off his bike.

He threw his helmet to the ground and ran. The police chased him on foot and arrested him.

He was under a five-year ban from the crown court for an earlier offence of dangerous driving.

The heroin was found in his possession and he told the police he was an addict, Mr Warren said.

Soley was bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court next month.
