I REFER to your article about the proposed Kidderminster incinerator in the October 12 issue.

As a member of the Community Liaison Group, I am incensed at the biased way in which the case for the incinerator proposals continues to be presented by Worcestershire County Council and Severn Waste Services.

Again we are presented with a report, based upon work by outside agencies which gives evidence against incineration.

This adds to the growing worldwide picture that the process is full of harmful and undesirable side-effects and is becoming less and less acceptable to the majority of other countries.

The way that both parties and the waste disposal industry dismiss with arrogance any report which argues against them is intolerable.

We must remember that Severn Waste Services are a private company who are prepared to finance large schemes in order to make large profits for their own shareholders.

It appears that on every occasion that their proposals are questioned any suggestion that they are wrong is brushed aside with arrogance and so full of platitudes that we are left with the impression that no-one else knows anything!

It appears that in supporting the proposals so vehemently the county council would not like a public debate.

While I have not written regarding errors and anomalies at CLG meetings, I am aware that the majority of correspondence remains unanswered.

Personally, I believe "Don't ask, a refusal may offend" and that delaying responses are indeed refusals. I feel that Jeff Romanis's statements are dismissive, arrogant and not do not give the whole picture.

Technology only serves to find incomplete proposals to solve problems. It does not provide a final solution. It so very often creates more problems and is used to engender more profits, otherwise there would be no need for continuous development.

Mr Romanis's statements regarding contacting the county council to "progress chase" their replies is beyond belief !

We have continually complained, and individuals have written to the chief executive, with little effect.

It is the duty of every officer of the county council, and in this case Severn Waste Services, to ensure that replies are despatched as soon as available.

I would remind them that they are all employed either directly or indirectly by the people of the county, and as such should commit to us their fullest attention.
