STAFF were put through a terrifying ordeal at a Kidderminster post office when it was robbed for the second time in less than a year.

And the raid at Broadwaters Post Office was also the second in the town in five days.

Four men wearing baseball caps smashed a glass screen and demanded money from staff at the Stourbridge Road newsagents on Friday.

They took a four-figure amount of cash. Staff were unhurt and there were no customers inside at the time of the theft.

The incident shortly before 1pm followed last Monday's raid at the town's Yorkshire Bank in which a "substantial" amount of money was also stolen.

The drama is the second traumatic experience for post office owners Mike and Jane Abraham, who have run the business for six years.

Last November a gang of raiders of East European or Asian origin, which included a small child, distracted staff and stole £20,000 from the till after they crowded into the newsagents and lured staff away from the counter.

Police are now searching for the men involved in Friday's theft, all of whom are black and in their mid-20s.

They drove off at speed along the A449 towards Wolverhampton in a red Rover saloon car, which had been stolen from the Kings Heath area of Birmingham on October 8, and was seen 15 minutes later on the A458 Bridgnorth road at Six Ashes.

Det Sgt Hugh Harding, of Kidderminster Police, said he believed the men could be from Wolverhampton.

He said: "They would have been able to get to Wolverhampton from Six Ashes. We also need to know what the car has been used for and where it has been kept since it was stolen if anybody has any information."

He added the post office raid was not being linked to the theft from the Yorkshire Bank, and appealed for witnesses to either incident to call police on 01562 820888.
