SWIMMING: Kidderminster Paralympic star Chris Holmes is searching for his first medal in Sydney 2000 in tomorrow's 100m backstroke contest.

Holmes is aiming to shake off a disappointing seventh in the 100m freestyle yesterday in his bid for a 10th gold in the competition.

The 28-year-old, who has starred in both Barcelona and Atlanta in past years, was just one place off the podium in his first event, finishing fourth in the 200m individual medley.

Holmes said afterwards: "I couldn't have done any better in the medley so I've got no complaints about fourth place.

"It was a brilliant race and although I didn't win a medal, I'm not disappointed.

"The place is absolutely fantastic, we had 18,000 spectators watching the swimming -- what an experience!"

Holmes goes on to his final contest, the 50m freestyle, on Saturday.
