TELEPHONE operators were so concerned by a drunken man's 999 call they sent police round to his home near Worcester.

The man had alarmed them when he simply asked operators if they could hear him.

When they tried to call him back shortly after his call at 3.20am last Saturday, October 21, no one answered so they alerted police.

Officers inspected the property in Cotheridge and found a window open at the back, which they used to enter the premises.

They found a man "highly intoxicated" and brought him round. He had no knowledge of dialling 999.

At 2.50pm on the same day, police received a call from the man thanking them for their help and apologising for the trouble he had caused.
