The latest effort to stir up public interest in the ailing Palace Theatre is a new supporters club inaugural meeting attracting over 100 people.

About 60 people have so far subscribed to the Friends of the Palace Theatre society and the club co-ordinator John Kirby expects this number to double by next year.

By encouraging people to join the society he hopes to improve the audience level and the number of people taking am interest in the theatre.

"We aim through this society to make this (The Palace) a place of relaxation and enjoyment which belongs to us and we to it", reads a handout.
