The Chairman: I am afraid there is a long list against you in that book.

Defendant: Yes Sir, but I am trying to get on. I am a teetotaller and I have not been here for some time.

The Chairman: I thought I had not seen you lately - (laughter) - and in consequence of your good behaviour you will only be fined 1s and costs 12s 6d allowed 14 days to pay.
