THE Autumn programme got underway with a talk by Michael Leech on "Garden and the Media."

Mr Leech mapped out the change in his professional life from working for a paint manufacturer to employment in a garden tool company.

The change came about by chance, but from it developed an interesting evening's insight into gardening programmes on TV and radio.

Members learned a lot about the personalities and famous names involved, all of whom Mr Leech had met on many occasions, and the fun of working with them.

He counted himself a very lucky man because his job also enabled him to gain entry to big shows such as Chelsea and Tatton Park before the crowds arrived. He gave accounts of how people handled the pressure of meeting deadlines with displays, especially when preparations went awry.

At the end of the meeting there was a plant stall where members and visitors could make purchases.

At the AGM, reports on the year's activities were given with deserved praise to the organisers of the Rose and Flower Shows. With the appointment of a committee, it was decided to continue the practice of making a donation to charity and this year, SENSE received the members' vote.

The next meeting is at 8pm on Thursday, November 9, at the Peace Hall, Rowney Green.

There will be an illustrated talk given by Grace Darby on "Corns, Bulbs and Tubers."

New members and visitors are very welcome.
