HEAVY traffic could be steered out of Bromsgrove if plans to de-trunk a main road in the town go ahead.
Bromsgrove District Council's planning and highways committee heard a report from the authority's head of policy and performance, John Moody.
The reports said Worcestershire County Council planned to de-trunk the A38 in Bromsgrove and wanted members' support.
The redundant trunk road would be locally managed -- including changing speed limits -- and would see a reduction in commercial vehicles.
Members agreed to support the plans on condition of a traffic study being carried out in the town and cars on the M42 and M5 near Bromsgrove being counted before the changes.
They also agreed the county council require the Highways Agency to address the flooding problem at Callowbrook, Rubery, with this year's budget following a current investigation.
If cash can't be found the committee wants to carry out remedial works identified in the findings.
