AT the September meeting, Scotland's Bill Moodie gave a slide show and talk on the mystical world of fungi.
Fungal spores are within the atmosphere all the time and are a part of the natural environment.
Many gardeners will have noticed a ring of tiny mushrooms in their lawn.
This is the dreaded Fairy Ring and Bill said that the only way to get rid of it was either to eat it or to move house!
Then there is the Honey Fungus which infects trees by penetrating them with bootlace cords until they die.
The Giant Puffball, however (which as children we used to kick as footballs) is perfectly harmless and also edible.
Bill showed about 80 slides of different fungi and gave quite detailed scientific information.
Earlier that day, members had gathered a variety of mushrooms from Oversley Wood, as living specimens in support of Bill's talk.
At the meeting on Thursday, November 16, at the Swan Hotel in Alcester starting at 7.15pm, Vic Aspland, the well-known Alpine expert will give a slides show and talk.
