ON October 28 the first Poppy Appeal of the new Millennium will be launched.

Following this launch there will be a special event which will take place at the Millennium Dome on Armistice Day, November 11, involving 2000 children linking up to form a circle of remembrance at 11am. A number of children will accompany the Millennium Torch from the Cenotaph to the Royal Albert Hall later that afternoon.

The above event is designed to symbolise peace and hope for the future and as we once again approach Armistice Day I would ask that we all remember the brave people who sacrificed everything for our freedom. The poppy is more than the emblem of remembrance, it is a symbol of hope for the future and the Royal British Legion keeps that hope alive by providing care and support for thousands of ex-servicemen and women.

By giving generously to the poppy day appeal you would not only be paying tribute to all those who gave so much in the past, you would be ensuring that the Legion's work continues and that they will be there for people who will need their support in the future.

I am sure you are aware that the poppy appeal only raises half the funds needed by The Royal British Legion each year, so you will appreciate that the money received from this appeal is vital if the Royal British Legion is to meet its growing needs into the new Millennium.

Please give generously, as I know your support is greatly appreciated.

Chairman,

Bromsgrove District Council.
