FANS of Broms-grove Rovers put the wheels in motion for positions on the supporters trust following their first Steering Committee meeting last Friday.
Club director Phil Baker was elected chairman with long serving supporter Paul Cheston as secretary. Chris Anscombe will be deputy chairman with specific responsibility for representing younger fans while Maurice Weaver will bring in financial expertise as treasurer.
Members present were keen to emphasise that the organisation of the Trust is totally independent of the club and not an integral part of the management and structure of the Victoria Ground outfit.
However, it was decided the Trust should work with everyone at the club to help secure future prosperity, both financially and on the pitch.
The first job for the elected officers is to get legal advice in order to draft a constitution and to formally set up the Trust, which will be run on a one member one vote basis. Discussions with solicitors will be held in the next two weeks.
Membership will be offered to anyone with an interest in the club, in particular past and present supporters.
Phil Baker said: "The meeting was very positive in wanting to do as much as possible to help Rovers. We have made a good start but there is a lot of hard work ahead of us. However I am a football fan and therefore an optimist so I expect this new organisation will be successful.
"In the fullness of time it is hoped the Trust will raise money for the club in exchange for shares. However, any donations will be ring fenced, meaning that the Trust and not the club management will decide how money is spent."
