FORMER skipper Tom Moody is interested in becoming Worcestershire's new coach. The Australian ace has contacted the County following Bill Athey's resignation.

Former New Road coach David Houghton has also expressed an interest in the job according to Worcestershire chairman John Elliott.

The interest shown by the former County favourites was expected to be discussed at a committee meeting at New Road today.

Worcestershire, however, do not plan to rush into making an appointment and have yet to decide on future coaching policies.

Elliott said: "It think at the moment we are just counting to 10 and having discussions and meetings on what we really want for next year.

"We maybe looking down the line of a cricket director or cricket manager who is totally in charge of all cricketing matters and then just reports to a management board on his ideas.

"But as far as anybody is concerned we haven't really started to look yet.

"One or two names have been put forward and Tom Moody has expressed a wish to come here. He's been in touch and so has David Houghton.

"We have a cricket meeting today where we are going to have a discussion on the general principles of what we want. That's whether we advertise the post, whether we head hunt or whether we are just happy to make a choice from Moody or Houghton."

And the County's Australian pace ace Glenn McGrath is setting his sights on 500 Test wickets -- even though he is still more than 200 short of the figure.

He said: "My ultimate goal is 500 Test wickets. If I can stay healthy for the next three to four years, I definitely think it is do-able."

McGrath says his experience with Worcestershire was also valuable in many ways.

"The county experience was great. It gave me a chance to see a bit of the Windies."
