SO will Worcester City be lining up among the big boys of Divisions Two and Three in Saturday's FA Cup first round draw?

Victory over Hampton and Richmond Borough in Saturday's fourth qualifying round tie will take City to a stage they've reached only once in the last 13 seasons.

That was two seasons ago, when George Rooney's side bowed out 1-0 at home to Third Division Torquay United.

But there's no doubt about it, City will have to be at their best to progress at the Beveree on Saturday, as Hampton will be the toughest obstacle on their Cup trail so far.

City's previous home wins over Cirencester Town (2-1) and Thatcham Town (3-1) were both against lower-graded opposition - here, they are up against another team of equivalent standard.

The London-based Ryman League Premier Division side have never previously reached the first round proper, which will act as sufficient incentive in itself.

And they won impressively in the last round 3-0 at Merthyr Tydfil - who looked good themselves at St George's Lane on Monday.

Hampton haven't lost in nine matches going into Saturday's tie and are currently 11th in the table.

And in striker Craig Maskell, who scored over 100 goals in more than 300 Football League appearances for Southampton, Swindon, Huddersfield, Reading, Bristol City, Brighton and Leyton Orient, they have a player to be feared. He is their leading scorer with 12 so far this season.

If their results this season are anything to go by Saturday's game should be a high-scoring affair - Hampton are the division's highest scorers yet only one side has conceded more goals!

But on the back of a five-match unbeaten run, City will not be short on confidence either, and their well-documented excellent away record - four wins in six attempts - means they will travel full of hope.

There have been signs in recent weeks that City have become better organised defensively despite the absence of the injured Martin Weir, aided by the return of Chris Greenman from a long-term injury.

If they can do enough to keep free-scoring Hampton quiet, then chances are likely to come at the other end for Mark Owen and co. to put away.

Much will also depend on the fitness of Paul Carty, Micky Cotter, Ian Cottrill, Weir and Carl Tranter, all of whom are likely to be tested at training tomorrow.

However, thoughts of playing the likes of Bristol City, Stoke, Millwall, Walsall or even Worcestershire rivals Kidderminster Harriers must be put on the backburner until Saturday's tie is out of the way, as thinking too far ahead can be costly.

A good Cup run and a glamour tie could make all the difference to City's finances - but they must concentrate on Hampton first and think about the possible consequences later.

The first round draw will take place at 5.35pm on Saturday and will be televised live on Sky Sports, with City allocated number 79 if they get through.

If Saturday's game is drawn, the replay will be at St George's Lane on Monday (7.45).

But if there is a positive result, City will entertain Halesowen Town in the first round of the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup instead (7.45).

City's youth team entertain Stourbridge tonight (7.45) in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Cup.
