TENS of thousands of pounds is being spent on rubbish resulting from damage and vandalism caused to litter bins across Redditch over the last five years.

Redditch Council has had to foot a bill of £70,000 as litter bins and street furniture have been destroyed and have needed to be repaired and replaced.

Chairman of the Public and Environmental Services Committee, Ken Somner, said: "Members of the public have asked for more litter bins and as quick as we're installing them, they are being damaged, many beyond use."

Members of the public are being asked to report any instances of vandalism to the council or the police.

Anyone who has any information about offenders can contact Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 555 111.
