COMPLAINTS from the public about children playing with fireworks have spurred police to issue a warning to retailers selling them to people under 18.
The message comes after police were called to Winyates Centre on Friday to deal with a gang of about 30 youths letting off fireworks.
Although nobody was hurt, the gang did spark a number of calls to police from worried residents.
Following this, parents are being urged to exercise control when it comes to buying and using fireworks.
Insp Jeff Hill, of Redditch police, said: "Fireworks are dangerous items and we are very concerned if people do not behave responsibly then people may be maimed or even killed.
"We will take very seriously any reports of fireworks being sold to underage youngsters and being misused in public places."
Meanwhile, Wythall Animal Sanctuary is advising pet owners to keep them indoors around bonfire night.
It suggests closing curtains and turning a TV or radio up to prevent animals being scared.
