STUDLEY Village Hall committee has welcomed the news Stratford Council has backed its bid for funding for a new hall with a grant of £389,000.
The committee is preparing a second lottery bid at the moment for an additional £389,000 from the National Lottery but were happy to receive confirmation of the new backing.
Committee honorary secretary Denis Charlton said: "It has encouraged the committee who feel for the first time that their efforts are beginning to pay off and we have sent a letter of appreciation to the district council."
The committee's first lottery bid for cash fell through in February after the lottery board felt the project did not meet its criteria for a community project.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the village's Christmas celebrations centred on the hall - that is if Father Christmas can be contacted to give out presents.
If Father Christmas is out there, he can call Mr Charlton on 852252.
