THE Environment Agency has launched an investigation into reports of strange particles of material floating through the air in the Winyates Green area.

According to residents' reports concerning the Foxcote Close area, a metallic-like substance is floating through the air and settling on cars and houses.

It has also been claimed that the particles are corroding UPVC doors when it lands on them.

One resident said: "This problem is concerning a great many people living in the Winyates Green area.

"Once these particles land on cars it is extremely difficult to clean them off and we are particularly worried about the effect these particles are having on UPVC doors, which seem to be corroding.

"It is very important that this is looked into. We want to know where these particles are coming from and how they can be stopped."

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said an investigation was currently being carried out into the origins of the particles.

He said: "We are aware of continuing problems in this area and have given advice to residents.

"We recently did some tests around the Winyates Green area and we are now taking a look at the results.

"Once we have managed to establish the source of this material which has been an ongoing problem, then we will be able to work at controlling the substance.

"We have asked residents to report any problems they encounter."
