A MAJOR research project to assess the needs and aspirations of the African and Caribbean community in Redditch will be kicked off with an exhibition at the town hall.

The event has been organised by the Black History Group as part of National Black History Month.

And the display will finish with a celebratory event of music, poetry and awards next Tuesday.

The £7,000 research project, which has been funded by a number of agencies, including Redditch Council and the police, will be carried out in the form of questionnaires.

And the forms will be available at NEW College from November 6 to December 1.

Group chairman June Sutherland said: "Through the use of questionnaires, interviews, focus groups and desk research, the professionals commissioned will provide a report setting out the needs as articulated by the community.

"We hope people will take the time to get involved in this important project."
