REDDITCH market is set to be re-located from Royal Square to Market Place after councillors gave the go-ahead on Monday.
Traders and Redditch Council have been in discussions over the temporary location of stalls to allow Debenhams to be built.
It was agreed the area of Market Place, near to the church, was most suitable.
Councillor David Cartwright said: "The decision we made on Monday still has to go back to the traders and we will have further talks with them.
"We need to sort out all the details, such as whether traders have permanent or temporary stalls."
Mr Cartwright said the traditional French markets would still be held in the town because there was room for everyone.
He said: "The option still has to be agreed by the owners of the Kingfisher Centre, Thornfield."
Thornfield director Peter Young said: "Everything should happen now and everyone is onside for it.
"It is just a temporary site and was up to the market traders and Redditch Council to decide the location."
