FAIRFIELD progressed into the third round of the Terry Cup at the expense of Division One side Thorn -- but they made hard work of it.

Luke Thomas's cross from the left eluded the Thorn keeper to give Fairfield the lead.

Five minutes later Thorn equalised when a move down the left resulted in their striker stabbing the ball home from close range. Just before half time Jason Ralph raced through only to be brought down in the penalty box by the keeper. Carl Downing made no mistake from the spot.

After the break Fairfield increased their lead when Ralph's cross found Paul Newbon at the far post and he headed home. Minutes later Fairfield had a man dismissed and this gave Thorn a lift and they scored two quick goals to pull themselves level.

Fifteen minutes from time Luke Thomas's cross found Chris Pinfield who headed home from 12 yards. Ten minutes later Fairfield put the game out of Thorn's reach when Pinfield received the ball 25 yards out and beat his man before firing a left foot shot into the bottom corner.
