MALVERN United Angling Association members contested their latest match, the Taylor Cup, last Sunday on the River Severn.

The river level was normal despite recent rains and there was a tinge of colour in the water, which encouraged the anglers.

The contest was a closely fought affair with only five ounces separating the top three anglers. Tom Hawker got the decision with 7-14-0, Tom fished on peg 26 using block end feeder with maggots to take a mixed bag of perch, skimmers and eels.

Close behind in second place was Dennis Flanagan who arrived late but that didn't stop him from taking a good catch of small chub and perch from the far bank on peg 6, Dennis also used block end feeder tactics with maggot on the hook to take his 7-11-0 net.

Mike Spragg finished in third position with a 7-9-0 mixed haul from peg 16 which included a small barbel of about two pounds.

Mike alternated between ground bait and block end feeder for his catch. Chris Loveridge took fourth place with 7-4-0.

The next match is the Derek Evans Trophy which is a float only contest on the River Severn on Sunday, October 1. Draw 7.15am, fish 8-1pm.
