BROMSGROVE Swimming Club clinched promotion to Division Two of the Nuneaton and
Warwickshire Diddy League in a gripping final last weekend.
Although Town's young swimmers never quite reproduced the form that had seen them win all the preliminary rounds, they did enough to finish runners up to Chase and move up a division next year.
They knew it would be a tough night when Chase won the first four
events but Lucie Edmunds stopped the run when, in a personal best time of
38.2, she won the girls' 12 years backstroke in event five.
Then in event ten Lucie's younger brother Richie, partnered Ryan Cooper, Mat Williams and Daniel May, won the nine-years mixed stroke relay.
Girls captain Claire Ashford was a superb winner in the 12 years butterfly in
another personal best time of 37.1 and the nine year olds had another relay win with Edmunds, Cooper, Williams and Edward Wolstenholme showing how strong the young team is.
Swim of the night
Boys' captain Joe Hobbis had what may have been the swim of the night when he
won the 12 years freestyle by almost ten metres in a personal best time of 30.4.
Then the girls 8x1 freestyle team, with two swimmers from each age group,
followed Joe to another win.
Nine-year-olds Alice Woodyatt and Rachel Shilvock, ten-year-old's Olivia Alton and Emily McNally, 11-year-olds Camilla Roome and Loren Harrison finally handed onto 12-year-olds Amy Marshall and Zoe Brawn for victory.
Then the boys team of Adrian Rose, James Hubbard, Daniel Jordan and
Hobbis showed they are among the best in the county as they won the
freestyle relay.
The girls too were only a second behind them as Edmunds, Jennifer Fleeman, Brawn and Ashford won their freestyle relay.
The team are grateful that 11-year-old Loren Harrison will still be around
next year as she came home first in the 11 years breaststroke.
Shortly afterwards, Nick Hubbard won the ten years boys butterfly.
The sublime 12-year-old girls team of Edmunds, Ashford, Fleeman and Brawn won again in the medley relay to round off a series of wins and secure enough
points to ensure promotion.
