A PROPOSAL to change the status of the A38 trunk road near Upton-upon-Severn has been approved by Malvern Hills District Council's executive board.
But it insists the "detrunking" is accompanied by enough money to make sure the road is well maintained.
The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions is looking to reduce the amount of trunk roads in Britain.
And it's been proposed to detrunk the A38 between Worcester and the M50 junction south of Upton.
This would mean that responsibility for the road's upkeep would pass from the national Highways Agency to Worcestershire County Council. MHDC's executive board heard that there were no direct financial implications for the district council in the detrunking.
