A MALVERN volunteer is waiting to hear if she's won a top national prize.

The winner of the National Association of Citizen's Advice Bureaux awards will be announced on Thursday (September 28) at the association's annual conference in York.

In line for the Lifetime Achievement award is Sheila Young, who's worked for the Malvern Hills CAB for 27 and a half years.

Mrs Young's work at the bureau includes general advice work, debt counselling, giving advice in CAB sessions at the Langland Community Centre and staffing the CAB desk at the county court.

She's also a member of the CAB management committee and plays an active role in fundraising for the bureau.

David Harker, NACAB's chief executive, said: "The CAB relies totally on its volunteers in all aspects of the service and these awards represent the enormous efforts of all our volunteers.

"Being short-listed at all is a huge achievement and I would personally like to thank Sheila for her invaluable contribution."

90 per cent of CAB workers are volunteers and Malvern's CAB, based in Grange Road, needs more.

Formal qualifications are not needed, but volunteers must be stable, reliable and able to provide a regular weekly commitment.

If you want to know more, call the CAB on 01684 567146, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am until 4pm.
