WORCESTER City boss John Barton has saluted Carl Tranter's role in the club's revived form.

Since his arrival earlier this month, the 21-year-old striker has linked well with fellow front man Mark Owen and helped City score 13 goals in their last five games, Tranter netting four times and Owen six.

Barton hopes for more of the same from his strike duo in tomorrow's Dr Martens Lea-gue Premier Division clash with Salisbury City at St George's Lane (3pm).

The City boss said of the former Bridgnorth and Kingstonian striker: "Since Carl has been in the side we have seen a different Mark Owen to what we have seen previously, and Carl has got his share of goals as well.

"He hasn't had a lot of work or games and is catching up on that, but both he and I feel there is more to come from him, and that can only be good for us."

City are looking to get back to winning ways after the 3-2 midweek defeat at Bath, which ended a run of four games without defeat and pushed them down to seventh place, one behind tomorrow's opponents. They are, however, only six points adrift of leaders Crawley Town.

Barton admits he knows little about Salisbury, but said: "They are a typical Premier Division side and most people probably look at their personnel and don't recognise too many names, and make an assumption they might represent good opponents to get points off.

" I have never felt that way about them. They are a hard-working, efficient side and don't give you anything. What you get, you have to work hard for.

"But they have been conceding goals as well and their defensive record is not the best. We have to be better in our defensive situations than we have been, and hope to exploit theirs."
