BUDDING basketball players are being urged to join a thriving set-up that has recently expanded into Droitwich.

Avon Valley Basketball Club, who train at Droitwich Leisure Centre and Nunnery Wood High School, Worcester, are searching for more slam-dunk stars of the future to come and play.

The club boast more than 300 members, including two men's teams playing in Division One of the West Midlands Area League and Gloucestershire Area League Division One and a ladies side competing in the Worcestershire Basketball League.

But it's their outstanding junior set-up, comprising four National League junior teams, which the club are really looking to push.

They field sides at year nine, year ten, cadets (under 16) and under 18s, with the prospect of matches all over the country.

Head coach George Fraser-Barker said: "I view us as a development club.

"We had six kids who went to English trials this year and three of them are in the West Midlands squad including two from Droitwich High School.

"We are a multi-national club who welcome males and females from any background. We have nine coaches which will soon go up to 12, so our future looks good."
