FANS of Bromsgrove Rovers are getting together on Wednesday, October 4 for the inaugural meeting of the club's supporters' trust.

The initiative, spearheaded by Rovers director and former Bromsgrove District Council chairman Phil Baker is open for anyone to attend, starting at 7.30pm in the Victoria Club.

It will be addressed by a representative of Supporters Direct, an off shoot of the Football Trust.

If set up, Rovers will be one of the first non-league clubs in the country to take part, something Phil feels the town could be immensely proud of.

He said: "The trust will be able to raise funds for the manager in exchange for shares in the club.

"Ordinary fans will then have a financial stake in the club and will have some influence on how things are run.

"Some clubs are positively hostile to fans getting involved in their affairs but with the support of fans and people of the town, there is no reason why in the fullness of time the club cannot get back to where it belongs in the elite of non-league football."

Where they have been set up, mainly by fans of Premiership and Football League clubs, the trusts have been very successful.

But given the current problems at Rovers with the ownership of the club, Phil is under no illusions as to the difficulties that lie ahead, despite a positive board meeting over the running of the club last Tuesday.
