MALVERN RFC Youth Development Section kicks-off its season of fixtures this Sunday (September 24) with two home games and an eight-team tournament at The Chase.

At Spring Lane, the HSBC Malvern Under 16 "Stags" take on a talented Bromsgrove team who the Stags ousted from the North Midlands U15 shield in a dramatic semi-final tie last March.

The two teams play very contrasting styles of rugby but it will be Malvern who will be calling for extra effort from their squad players as the will be without the services of at least three of their key players who will be attending Worcestershire U16 County Schools rugby trials.

Nevertheless, everything is set for an interesting encounter for the discerning rugby spectator as both teams grapple for victory under the new under 19 laws.

A greatly expanded Malvern Under 15 "Staghounds" squad will also take on Bromsgrove at Spring Lane, hoping to turn around a very disappointing run of results last season.

The new faces in the squad plus a number of Under 14 players have given some of the "old hands" a little competition for places in the match side and this should help to raise the standard of the rugby and improve the results through the season.

The Under 15's match kicks off at 10.2pam, the HSBC U16 "Stags" begin their match at 11am.

Over at The Chase, the Malvern Under 13's "Chimeras" will join teams from Bromsgrove, Dudley, Dursley, Redditch, Stratford, Stourbridge and Woodrush in a Super 12's tournament for the honour of lifting the Malvern Gazette Super 12's trophy and other competition prizes.

he tournament originally devised as an end-of-season tournament for Under 12 teams, was switched to the start of the rugby season for Under 13 sides when it was clear that there was a lack of competitions for Under 13s rugby teams in this region.

The level of competition at the Super 12's is always very keen and despite not having the current trophy holders form Dorking at this year's tournament, the quality of ruby is expected to be high.

The Malvern RFC Super 12's tournament kicks off at 10.30am and concludes with the final for the Malvern Gazette trophy at around 3pm.
