DAVE Brubeck fans are in for a treat next week, with the next concert arranged by the Friends of Upton Jazz Festival.

The experienced musicians of the Martin Hart Quartet will present Dave Brubeck - A Life Story at Hanley Castle High School on Friday, September 29, at 8pm.

Drummer Martin Hart started playing in the Sixties and toured the club circuit with John Mayell and the Blues Breakers.

He played in London with Humphrey Lyttelton and Sandy Brown and took part in BBC Jazz Club broadcasts with the Bob Stuckey Trio and the Martin Franklin Quartet.

In the Eighties he played with Latin band Casbassa at the Bracknell Festival and with jazz violinist Derek MacDonald in the Quadrants. In the Nineties he performed with Millicent Martin in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and he has recently recorded with Gary Potter on his new CD, Grace Notes.

Pianist Roger Munns began playing at the age of 13 and was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Music.

He has taught improvisation at the Jazz Central School, in Birmingham, toured the continent with Peter York's New York and played with the John Crocker Quartet. He is now head of keyboard development at Eaton College.

Peter Cook (alto saxophone) gained a licentiate diploma in jazz studies at the Guildhall School of Music in 1994 and has toured Europe and the United Kingdom with Roy Gelato's Giants.

He teaches saxophone at Wellington College and Reading Blue Coat School, lectures at Brunel University and has just recorded a debut CD, That's Cooking, with his own septet.

Bass player Peter Hughes started his professional career as a trumpet player and switched to bass after two years.

He has played with John Chilton's Feetwarmers, toured Europe with the John Crocker Quartet and been resident bass player at Merlin's Cave, Chalfont, for the last 18 years.
