AS I have watched the TV programmes commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, my mind had been full of praise and pride at the way in which we, as a nation, were saved from slavery under the German jackboot.
This has been replaced by deep sorrow as I remembered that if Tony Blair accepts the Treaty of Nice in December, we shall have our national interests further eroded. In other words - what our brave men and women fought and died for - FREEDOM - will be surrendered without a shot being fired by stealth and politics.
I wonder what our army regiments will be called once our sovereignty has gone - "Royal" - will certainly be out - and how could we sing Rule Britannia at the last night of the Proms?
There are, of course, many more deeply serious issues at stake - but today my memories are tinged with deep sorrow!
