Warwick III 2,

Evesham III 4

EVESHAM travelled away with a strong side for the first friendly game of the season, and came away with a hard fought victory.

A balanced first quarter of the match saw Warwick taking a seventh minute lead from a short corner, only for Evesham to pull level three minutes later, when some neat interchange between Grant, Perry and Allan paid off with a well placed effort from Perry.

Scores remained level until just before the break when, with another well worked short corner routine, Welland fired home from the edge of the circle, to give Evesham a 2-1 lead.

From the restart, Evesham dominated, displaying measured defensive play and smooth passing hockey.

However, it wasn't until the 50th minute that this was converted to a 3-1 lead, when a loose ball fell to young Stuart Bearcroft, who ably slotted the ball home from close range.

Evesham began to tire, and Warwick pulled a goal back six minutes later, but despite Evesham's tiredness, they continued to play an attractive passing game.

And, with just two minutes remaining they sealed victory as Grant nipped in from a broken down short corner.

The season continues on Saturday with another pre-season friendly against Sutton Coldfield, push back 3.30pm at Evesham High School.
