IN reply to David Barlow (You Say, September 19), his acknowledgement (in his words) of the small over-run, in costs for the Sabrina Bridge is welcomed.
Costs, originally agreed by Policy and Resources committee for £397,000, alarmingly escalated to £617,000. Then there was the additional £22,000 for resurfacing, plus the additional cost to the lighting, and of course any compensation for injuries claimed.
This equals almost a quarter-of-a-million pounds over estimate.
So would the voters have supported the Sabrina Bridge, or perhaps the spending of almost £700,000 on our schools or now sold-off residential homes?
Was this alternative in your manifesto, Coun Barlow?
BRIAN HUNT,
Worcester.
